NDIS Access to Counselling

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Counselling is a Therapeutic Support, available to eligible NDIS participants; Visit the NDIS website for more information.

NDIS Website

Counselling is different to other therapeutic services as it is a person-centred therapeutic support which aims to strengthen mental health and achieve individualised goals. Counselling is a capacity-building and capacity-enhancing therapeutic service that offers more than just emotional support; Counselling aims to support you to achieve your goals, such as being more independent.

To access counselling services from My Counselling and Me under the NDIS, you can use the item ‘Improved Daily Living’ in your plan. Improved Daily Living provides funds to access an allied health professional and is generally flexible across other therapeutic services. You could therefore use some or all your Improved Daily Living funds for counselling, if you think it will benefit you and your short-term goals.

How Does It All Work?

Apply for your NDIS package. Contact NDIS to clarify your eligibility for NDIS services; information on NDIS can be found here. If you Need help applying for NDIS, please Contact your Local Area NDIS Coordinator. Your Local Area NDIS Coordinator can be located by contacting your local NDIS office.
